A Signature Program

The Greenhouse Project.

A climate-controlled greenhouse at Haderlie Farms growing fresh produce through the Wyoming winter. Built with recycled waste-oil heat and a community of partners. Fully operational since winter 2025-26.

Now operational

Supplying fresh produce for all eight winter markets this season.

In the fall of 2023, the Jackson Hole Farmers Market and the Belote Family approached Curtis Haderlie of Haderlie Farms with an idea: a new greenhouse aimed at ensuring a consistent supply of produce for our winter markets and the community for years ahead.

With a donation to support and oversee the project, Haderlie Farms began installing the greenhouse, guided by two clear objectives. First, cultivate greens and produce to offer the community during the long Wyoming winter season. Second, heat the structure with waste oil sourced from a local business so that fuel is recycled instead of disposed of.

The greenhouse launched in winter 2025-26 and is now fully operational. It supplies fresh-grown produce for each of our eight winter markets across Jackson and Teton Village, and grows summer crops like tomatoes and peppers through the warmer months.

How it works

Four ideas at the heart of the project.

Year-round growing

A climate-controlled greenhouse with supplemental heat and light promotes growth even when temperatures and daylight drop.

Start with the basics

The plan begins with the easiest crops (spinach and lettuce) then expands to other species as the system is tuned in.

Recycled waste-oil heat

A waste-oil boiler sourced from a local business heats hot water that runs through pex pipes buried in the soil. Fuel that would have been disposed of becomes warmth.

Built for winter

Vegetables from the structure run from November through April, when the regular outdoor growing season can take over again.

Timeline

From idea to first harvest.

  1. Fall 2023

    The idea

JH Farmers Market and the Belote Family approach Haderlie Farms to fund and design the project.

  2. Summer 2024 – 2025

    Construction

The greenhouse is installed at Haderlie Farms, with the waste-oil heating system completed by Winter 2025.

  3. Winter 2025-26

    Launch

The greenhouse launches and supplies fresh-grown produce for all eight winter markets across Jackson and Teton Village.

  4. Now

    Year-round

Climate-controlled and fully operational. Winter greens like spinach and lettuce; summer crops like tomatoes and peppers.

During the warmer months the greenhouse takes on a second role: a home for more sensitive summer crops like tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers that need protection from the cool Teton mountain nights.

The heating system

Waste oil, recycled into warmth.

A Clean Burn waste-oil boiler heats water that runs through pex pipes buried in the soil. The entire heating system recycles fuel that would otherwise be disposed of.
